What Brand Registry Gives You
Amazon Brand Registry is Amazon's program for registered brand owners. Benefits for sellers:
- Control over listings: You can correct incorrect product info on your listings
- A+ Content: Enhanced images, comparison tables, richer copy on product pages (converts 10-20% better)
- Sponsored Brand ads: Ad formats only available to registered brands
- Brand Analytics: Data on search terms driving sales, competitor positioning
- Stores: Build a multi-page Amazon store (/yourbrand)
- Brand Registry Protection: IP violation reporting tools
For private label sellers at any scale, Brand Registry is foundational.
Prerequisite: Registered Trademark
Amazon requires a pending or registered trademark. Not a DBA, not a business name — a USPTO (US), EUIPO (EU), or equivalent trademark registration.
Trademark Types Amazon Accepts
- Standard character mark (wordmark)
- Design mark (logo)
- Both (most protective)
Trademark Classes
You need your trademark registered in the correct Nice class for your product category:
- Class 25: Apparel
- Class 9: Electronics
- Class 28: Toys, sports equipment
- Class 3: Cosmetics
- Class 21: Household goods
- etc.
Filing in the wrong class = rejected Brand Registry application.
Trademark Application Timeline and Cost
USPTO (United States)
- Filing fee: $250-350 per class
- Examination period: 3-6 months
- Amazon accepts pending trademarks via Amazon IP Accelerator (faster) or after registration (slower)
EUIPO (European Union)
- Filing fee: ~€850 first class, €50 each additional
- Examination: 4-6 months
- Covers all 27 EU member states in one filing
Amazon IP Accelerator (US)
Amazon partners with trademark law firms to provide fast-track trademark filings. Brand Registry accepts these within 1-2 weeks of filing.
- Cost: $700-1500 depending on firm
- Timeline: 2 weeks to Brand Registry approval
- Trademark itself still takes 6-12 months to register formally, but Amazon grants Brand Registry access during the pending period
For most new private label sellers, IP Accelerator is the fastest path.
Brand Registry Application
Requirements
- Approved trademark (registered or IP Accelerator pending)
- Brand name that matches the trademark exactly
- Product category and intended marketplaces
- Images of your product with visible brand on packaging or product
Application Process
- Go to brandservices.amazon.com
- Click Enroll
- Enter trademark registration number + brand name
- Select categories where you sell (must match trademark classes)
- Upload product images showing brand (packaging, product itself, labels)
- Verification: Amazon sends a code to trademark owner's email on record — you enter this code
Processing: 1-5 business days.
What Amazon Verifies
- Trademark is active and owned by the applying account
- Brand name on product matches registered trademark (exact match required)
- Product images show brand visibly
Common Rejection Reasons
Trademark class mismatch: Your trademark is in class 25 (apparel) but you're trying to register a kitchen tool. Reject. Fix: file additional class or limit Brand Registry to apparel. Brand text doesn't match trademark: Trademark is "SUNCASTLE" but your product says "Sun Castle" with a space. Reject. Fix: file trademark exactly as used on product. No brand visible on product: Product images show generic-looking goods without your brand on packaging. Reject. Fix: apply brand labels before photographing. Ownership not matching: Trademark owned by "John Smith" but Amazon account owned by "ABC LLC". Reject. Fix: assign trademark to the company entity, update records.Post-Registration Tools
After approval, you unlock:
A+ Content
Rich content on product detail pages. Replaces plain bullet points with:
- 5-7 multi-image content modules
- Comparison tables vs. your own other products
- Brand story
- Detailed feature callouts
Creates 8-15% conversion lift on average, sometimes 30%+ for higher-consideration products.
Sponsored Brand Ads
Ad formats showing:
- Your brand logo + custom headline + 3+ featured products in a banner
- Video ads featuring your brand
- Available slots on search results + product detail pages
Typically 25-40% cheaper than sponsored product ads (lower bid competition) with higher click-through rates.
Brand Analytics
Free reports showing:
- Top search terms driving clicks to your brand
- Competitor products shown alongside yours
- Market basket analysis (what else your customers bought)
- Demographics of your customers (age, household income)
These reports are critical for PPC strategy and new product opportunity ID.
Transparency Program
Apply unique transparency codes to each unit. Amazon scans the code on fulfillment — fakes without valid codes get rejected before reaching FBA.
Cost: $0.05 per code. Worth it for categories with known counterfeit problems (beauty, electronics).
Relationship to Sourcing
Brand Registry sits on top of your sourcing:
- Source from 1688 / Alibaba with your private label branding (see [Private Label Sourcing Guide](/guides/private-label-sourcing-from-china-2026))
- Register that brand in USPTO
- Enroll in Brand Registry
- Now you control the listing entirely
Without Brand Registry:
- Anyone can claim your listing and add their own versions
- You have no A+ Content (50% lower conversion)
- Limited ad formats
- Vulnerable to hijacker listings
Brand Registry is a one-time investment that compounds returns forever.
Costs Summary
Total cost to go from zero brand to Brand Registry active:
- Trademark filing: $250-1500 (depending on class + IP Accelerator)
- Brand Registry: free
- First A+ Content module: free to create
- Sponsored Brand minimum ad spend: $1/day
Typically 3-6 months from "I want to start" to "brand fully registered and running".
FAQ
Q: Can I start selling before Brand Registry approval?A: Yes. You can list products immediately with a brand name even without Brand Registry. You just don't get the premium tools. Start selling, file trademark, register when approved.
Q: Is Brand Registry worth it for very new brands?A: Yes IF you plan to scale past $50K annual revenue. Below that, the $250-1500 filing cost + time may not pay back.
Q: Can one Brand Registry cover multiple countries?A: Each Amazon marketplace region has its own Brand Registry. US (amazon.com), EU (multiple), UK, Japan, Canada — file separately. A multi-region trademark (Madrid Protocol) helps but you still enroll in each country's Registry separately.
Q: What if someone already registered my desired brand name?A: Do trademark search on USPTO (tsdr.uspto.gov) BEFORE finalizing brand name. Common brand names are usually taken. Need unique, creative names to avoid conflicts.
